Loreto surrounds itself with a very comfortable atmosphere which gives all students the skills and tools to achieve to their highest academic potential.

Loreto offers students a Junior Cycle program, a brilliant Transition Year program and a Senior Cycle Programe.

In Junior cycle students have to complete all mandatory subjects and have a choice to pick two optional subjects.

Loreto Milford offer students a wide variety of subject options giving many students a tough decision. These optional subjects include:

In between junior cycle and senior cycle, Loreto community school offer an exceptional optional Transition Year programme, one that students from all over Donegal from various school’s change school to be apart of the fantastic programme. This programme offers students with valuable lifelong skills that as a student you will take with and a year that sets you up perfectly for senior cycle. A year that many people use to ‘mature’ as many Loreto teachers might refer it to. As a ‘TY’ student you have the option of taking in many challenging but fun modules throughout the year. Some of which include:

  • Cookery
  • Drama
  • Event Management
  • Guitar
  • Preparation for the World of Work
  • Product Design
  • Road Safety
  • School Magazine
  • Stocks & Shares

Transition year also includes many trips, outings, shows, talks and events which always get the students getting something new at all times. Some of these may include Gaisce, Build a Bank Challenge, Fashion Competitions, organising fundraising events for Charity and everyone favourites of the trips to the Ireland and Celtic matches.

Transition year in Loreto Milford is so well run and co-ordinated that students get to evolve, mature, grow confidence and develop valuable skills. As every Loreto student will know the famous words to every ‘TY’ student, “you get out of it what you put into it” and I think that motto has stayed with all students in which every path they may endeavour in the future and will always have a found memory in the heart of all Transition Year students. Your Transition Year is assessed by a Portfolio & Interview at the end of the year. All students who pass the year receive a fully Certified by Loreto Community School.

In senior cycle all Students have to take the five mandatory core subjects and then have a choice of any four from the optional subject list.

The school also run a Leaving Cert Applied(LCA) programme. This is an alternative to the Department of Education Leaving Certificate programme. The Leaving Certificate Applied is a different approach to education and training. Students apply their knowledge, skills and experience to practical tasks at school, in the workplace and in the wider community.

Eleven subjects are done over the two years. This is done in consultation with the students and their interests as well as staff considerations. These subjects vary from ICT, childcare, and engineering . In Loreto community school, all students go to work experience one day every week to give students an insight on how to apply the skills they have learned into real life situations.
